Inside the atelier
From the artist’s hand to the finished piece.
A line drawn on paper. The curve of a carved knight. A final touch of gold. The pleasure of a game begins in its making.

The shape of an idea.
Proportion sets the tone: the height of a chess piece, the rhythm of the points on a backgammon board, the border around a playing card. Drawing and modelling give these decisions a form before the material is worked.
The hand in the finish.
Carving reveals a silhouette. Paint gives it depth. Polishing changes the way light travels over the surface. Small variations can lend a finished object a character that repeated shapes alone cannot convey.
Wood. Stone. Metal. Leather. Paper.
Wood offers warmth and grain. Stone brings weight and individual veining. Metal catches the light; leather softens the sound of play. Paper carries the image and determines the feel of a deck in the hand. Each material is part of the experience.
Made for the way you play.
Balance, legibility and touch matter as much as appearance. A piece should feel comfortable to lift, a playing surface should be clear to read, and a beautiful game should invite another turn.

Atelier imagery presents illustrative design and process studies.
